Repair instruction for 'cracking noise from roll bar'

Complaint

Cracking noises in the area of the backrest or head restraint in the rear seats.

Cause

Possible cause is a gap in the roll bar that is too small.

Vehicles concerned

Vehicles in the production period 01.04.2004 - 06.07.2005.

Repair instruction

If the trim elements can be excluded as cause of the customer complaint, proceed as follows.
1. Remove the roll bar.
2. Check that the roll bar adheres to the gap dimension.
3. The positions on the roll bar shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 must have a gap.
4. If there is contact at these positions, the roll bar must be replaced.
