Fuel Rail: Service and Repair
Replacing Fuel Line
Special tools required:
- 13 5 281
- 13 5 282
Caution!
When working on the oil, coolant or fuel circuit, protect the alternator against contamination.
Cover alternator with suitable material.
Recycling:
Fuel emerges when fuel line is detached. Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.
Turn off ignition.
Release fuel pressure from fuel line.
Release fuel feed pipe from stabilizer bracket.
Disconnect quick fit connector (1) from injector rail.
Plug fuel feed pipe using service tool 13 5 281.
Remove fuel line retaining brackets (1) from engine compartment bulkhead and body floor.
NOTE: To remove the fuel line it is necessary to lower the subframe slightly. Failure to follow the procedure may result in damage to the subframe or fixings.
Support the centre of the subframe with transmission stand.
Remove both compliance bush retaining bolts (1).
Install: Tightening torque 59 NM + 90degs. (+/-) 15degs.
Slacken both subframe top mounting retaining bolts (1) by approximately 5 mm.
NOTE: Do not remove bolts.
Install: Tightening torque 100 NM (Self-Forming).
Slacken all six subframe rear retaining bolts, until a 10 mm gap appears, see illustration.
NOTE: It may be necessary to lower the transmission jack slightly to allow the subframe to move away from the body. Remove right hand retaining bolt (1) from subframe.
Squeeze the latches of the quick fit connector (1) and gently pull fuel feed pipe (2) from quick fit connector.
Fit service tool 13 5 282 to the fuel line and remove fuel line from body retaining clips.
Remove fuel feed line from vehicle.
NOTE: It may be necessary to slacken the manifold heat shield on the bulkhead to provide additional clearance.
Dispose of fuel retained in the fuel feed line.
When the process has been completed, check for fuel leaks.
