SUBJECT
Troubleshooting Noises from Front Seat Backrest
MODEL
R50 MINI Cooper, and R53 MINI Cooper S
SITUATION
Some owners may complain about clicking or cracking noises from the area of the front seats backrests.
The following may be used a guide to eliminate those noises.
PARTS INFORMATION
The part number may be used when felt tape is required.
PROCEDURE
If a clicking is heard during side to side movement, check for interference between the horizontal wires and the plastic lumbar support. If the ends of the wires are pointing down as shown by the lower wire in the illustration callout, twist the ends of the wires so that they point upward as in (1).
If the plastic lumbar support contacts the vertical wire that horizontal wires fasten to, trim (A) on the lumbar support 1-2 mm.
If there is a click from the backrest when the occupant pushes back on the seat, check for interference between the vertical adjuster wire and the backrest rear cover.
If the adjuster wire is contacting the rear cover, apply felt tape to the contact area on the cover to insulate it from the wire.
