SI M71 01 05Vehicle Tools
December 2005
Technical Service
This Service Information bulletin supersedes SI M71 01 05 dated July 2005.
[NEW] PERFORM THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS SERVICE INFORMATION ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES BEFORE CUSTOMER DELIVERY OR THE NEXT TIME THEY ARE IN THE SHOP FOR MAINTENANCE OR REPAIRS.
[NEW] Under the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966, as amended, if there has been a recall campaign, dealers must assure that all new vehicles and new items of replacement equipment are free of safety defects and comply with all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards at the time of delivery to the consumer. This means that dealers may not deliver new motor vehicles or new items of replacement equipment to consumers unless the safety defect or noncompliance has been remedied before delivery.

SUBJECT
Recall Campaign 05V-470: Inspect Tire Information Label
MODEL
R50 (Cooper)
SITUATION
[NEW] Certain vehicles were produced with the incorrect Tire Information Label installed. The relationship between tire size and tire pressure is missing from the label. This Recall Campaign is being performed to check and correct the label as necessary.
[NEW] Customers will receive notification letters, installation instructions and a Tire Information Label. Customers will be given the option of installing the label themselves or having an authorized MINI dealer perform the procedure. Copies of the Customer Letter and installation instructions are shown in this bulletin.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
[NEW] This Recall Campaign involves Cooper vehicles which were produced from 6 June 2002 through 12 July 2002.
[NEW] In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Recall Campaign, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.
The Chassis Number Ranges shown are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.
PROCEDURE
Open the driver's door and inspect the Tire Information Label located on the B pillar. The incorrect label does not have any symbol notation.
The correct label will have symbol notation (triangle, circle, square) to the left of the tires sizes and to the left of the corresponding tire pressures. If the correct label is installed, no further action is required.
The incorrect label does not have any symbol notation. If the incorrect label is installed, wipe off the old label with a clean dry rag. Peel the backing off of the new label and install it directly over the old one.

LABEL INSTRUCTIONS
This Recall Campaign has been assigned code number 18. After the vehicle has been checked, and corrected if necessary, obtain a label (MD 20-013) and:
a. emboss your MINI dealer warranty number in the middle of the label (1);
b. punch out code number 18 (2) printed on the label and,
c. affix the label to the B pillar as shown.
If the vehicle already has a label from a previous Service Action/Recall Campaign, affix the new label next to the old one. Do not affix one label on top of another one because a number from an underlying label could appear in the punched-out hole of the new label.
