2.5L HEATER CORE NOISE

ISSUE
Some 2010-2012 Fusion and 2010-2011 Milan vehicles equipped with the 2.5L DOHC engine may exhibit an audible noise in the heater core/instrument panel area often described as a gurgle, water[all, or percolator sound. This concern typically occurs on initial engine start 1st throttle tip-in, when the ambient temperatures are lower than 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius).

ACTION
Follow the service procedure to correct the concern.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Install the Degas Service Kit using the instruction sheet provided.

a. The degas bottle included in this kit is from the MKZ and Fusion Sport, please apply the correct coolant requirement label provided.

If the concern is occurring outside the conditions listed in the Issue Statement, ensure the coolant is at the proper level, the cooling system hasn't been recently serviced, and cooling system integrity is checked following Workshop Manual, Section 303-03A. If the cooling system has been recently serviced or the coolant level was lower than specifications and now corrected, the noise should diminish after an extended drive cycle.
