Headliner: Service and Repair




Headliner - Taurus, Sable

NOTE: Vehicle shown with roof opening panel, all other vehicles similar.










Removal and Installation

1. Depower the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). For additional information, refer to Air Bag Systems.

2. If equipped, remove the DVD system.

3. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to A-Pillar Trim Panel A-Pillar Trim Panel.

4. Remove the passenger side door check arm.
- Remove the 2 door check arm bolts from the body.

- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

5. Remove the LH and RH front seats.

6. Remove the front floor console.

7. Remove selector lever.

8. Flatten the LH and RH carpet against floor and tape into position.

9. Remove the LH and RH B-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to B-Pillar Trim Panel B-Pillar Trim Panel.

10. Completely remove the front RH door weatherstrip from opening.

11. Remove the LH and RH C-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to C-Pillar Trim Panel - Taurus, Sable C-Pillar Trim Panel.

12. Remove the LH and RH D-pillar trim panels. For additional information, refer to D-Pillar Trim Panel - Taurus, Sable D-Pillar Trim Panel.

13. Remove the 3 assist handles.
- Remove the assist handle screws.

14. Remove the LH and RH sun visor.
- Remove the 3 sun visor retaining screws.

- If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors.

- Remove the sun visor clip screws.

- Remove the sun visor clips.

15. Remove the LH and RH sun visor clips.
- Remove the sun visor clip screws.

16. If equipped, disconnect the roof opening panel trim ring dual-lock from the roof opening panel.

17. If equipped, disconnect the roof opening panel electrical connector.

18. If equipped, disconnect the interior auto-dimming electrical connector.

19. If equipped, disconnect the compass sensor electrical connector.

20. Disconnect the electrical connector located on the LH and RH lower A-pillar.
- Remove the wiring harness pin-type retainers.

21. If equipped, disconnect the safety canopy bridge resistor electrical connector.

22. Remove the 3 trim panel retaining clips from the rear of the headliner.
- Remove the center retaining clip using a pushpin puller, and the 2 outer clips using a thin-blade screwdriver to depress the engagement tabs.

23. NOTICE: To prevent bending or damaging the headliner, an assistant is required to support the headliner while carrying out the remaining steps.

Remove the headliner.

- Lower the headliner.

- Rotate the headliner 90 degrees clockwise and remove the headliner through the right front door opening.

24. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
