Pinpoint Test A: The Air Bag Warning Indicator Is Illuminated Continuously
Air Bag and Safety Belt Pretensioner Supplemental Restraint System (SRS)
Pinpoint Tests - Restraints Control Module (RCM)
Pinpoint Test A: The Air Bag Warning Indicator is Illuminated Continuously
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 46, Supplemental Restraint System for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
During normal operation, the Instrument Cluster (IC) module will illuminate the air bag warning indicator continuously for 6 seconds after the ignition switch is placed to the RUN or ON position. If the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is fault free, the air bag warning indicator will turn off and remain off. If a fault is detected in the SRS, the Restraints Control Module (RCM) will communicate to the IC module via the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) to illuminate the air bag warning indicator and it will remain illuminated for the rest of the ignition cycle. The IC module will illuminate the air bag warning indicator based on messaging from the RCM or if there is no communication between the RCM and IC module.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- IC module
- RCM
PINPOINT TEST A: THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR IS ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY
WARNING: Always tighten the fasteners of the restraints control module (RCM) and impact sensor (if equipped) to the specified torque. Failure to do so may result in incorrect restraint system operation, which increases the risk of personal injury or death in a crash.
WARNING: Never probe the electrical connectors on air bag, Safety Canopy(R) or side air curtain modules. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of these modules, which increases the risk of serious personal injury or death.
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) from the Flex Probe Kit when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
Most faults are due to connector and/or wiring concerns. Carry out a thorough inspection and verification before proceeding with the pinpoint test. Inspection and Verification
NOTE: SRS components should only be disconnected or reconnected when instructed to do so within a pinpoint test step. Failure to follow this instruction may result in incorrect diagnosis of the SRS.
NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

A1 RETRIEVE RCM DTCs
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self Test - RCM.
- Were any DTCs retrieved during self-test?
Yes
If DTCs were retrieved, GO to the DTC Charts for diagnostic direction. Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures
Do not clear any DTCs until all DTCs have been resolved.
No
If the RCM does communicate with the scan tool, REFER to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators to diagnose the IC module concern.
If the RCM does not communicate with the scan tool, REFER to Information Bus to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
Do not clear any DTCs until all DTCs have been resolved.
