Pinpoint Test AC: DTC B2844
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 60, Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
With the ignition switch in the START or RUN position, the Instrument Cluster (IC) receives voltage from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) through circuit CBP20 (YE/VT). When the ignition switch is turned to the OFF or ACC position, the voltage drops to 0 volts on circuit CBP20 (YE/VT).
- DTC B2844 (Ignition Fault) - a continuous and on-demand DTC that sets in the IC when the IC detects voltage on circuit CBP20 (YE/VT) with the ignition switch in the ACC position or if no voltage is supplied by the key-in-ignition switch on circuit CDC30 (BU/GY) with the ignition in the START, RUN or ACC positions.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Ignition switch
- IC
PINPOINT TEST AC: DTC B2844
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
-------------------------------------------------
AC1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Is DTC B1352 recorded?
Yes
Go To Pinpoint Test AI. Pinpoint Tests AI: The Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime Is Inoperative
No
GO to AC2.
-------------------------------------------------
AC2 CHECK CIRCUIT CBP20 (YE/VT) FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE ACC POSITION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: IC C220.
- Ignition In ACC.
- Measure the voltage between the IC C220-20, circuit CBP20 (YE/VT), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the ignition switch in the ACC position?
Yes
CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
GO to AC3.
-------------------------------------------------
AC3 CHECK CIRCUIT CBP20 (YE/VT) FOR VOLTAGE WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE RUN OR START POSITION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: PCM Power Relay.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the IC C220-20, circuit CBP20 (YE/VT), harness side and ground.
- Place the ignition switch in the START position.
- Measure the voltage between the IC C220-20, circuit CBP20 (YE/VT), harness side and ground.
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the voltage between the IC C220-20, circuit CBP20 (YE/VT), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts with the ignition switch in the RUN and the START position, and does the voltage drop to 0 volts when the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position?
Yes
GO to AC4.
No
REFER to Steering Column to diagnose the ignition switch circuits. Testing and Inspection
-------------------------------------------------
AC4 CHECK FOR CORRECT IC OPERATION
- Disconnect the IC connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the IC connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
