Pinpoint Test AB: The Engine Idle Hour Meter Is Inoperative (If Equipped)

Normal Operation

The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the digital Transmission Range (TR) sensor status message from the PCM over the HS-CAN, and if the engine speed is greater than 400 rpm, it records the amount of time the engine runs with the transmission in PARK (P) or NEUTRAL (N).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- IC



PINPOINT TEST AB: THE ENGINE IDLE HOUR METER IS INOPERATIVE (IF EQUIPPED)

AB1 CHECK THE TACHOMETER OPERATION


- Start the engine and verify the tachometer operates correctly.
- Does the tachometer operate correctly?

Yes
GO to AB2.

No
Go To Pinpoint Test D. Pinpoint Test D: The Tachometer Is Inoperative

AB2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded PCM DTCs from the Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
- Are any PCM DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Transmission Control Systems to continue diagnosis of the digital Transmission Range (TR) sensor. Testing and Inspection

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.
