Test X: The Powertrain Malfunction (Wrench) Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On
PINPOINT TEST X: THE POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION (WRENCH) WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ONNormal Operation
The instrument cluster receives the powertrain malfunction data from the PCM for the electronic throttle control status and the transmission status and from the four wheel drive (4WD) control module for the AWD status over the high speed controller area network (HS-CAN) communication bus. When a fault condition exists in electronic throttle control system or the transmission, the PCM provides the instrument cluster with a message to turn on the powertrain malfunction (wrench) warning indicator. When a AWD fault condition exists, the 4WD control module sends the instrument cluster a message to turn on the powertrain malfunction (wrench) warning indicator.
If the electronic throttle control or transmission message is missing for greater than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster sets DTC U0100 and defaults the powertrain malfunction (wrench) warning indicator ON.
If the AWD status message is missing for greater than 5 seconds, the instrument cluster sets DTC U0114 and defaults the powertrain malfunction (wrench) warning indicator ON.
NOTE: If U0100 is set in the instrument cluster other symptoms may also be present such as an inoperative speedometer, tachometer or temperature gauge.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Electronic throttle control concern
- Transmission concern
- AWD concern
- Instrument cluster
