Front Door Latch: Service and Repair

FRONT DOOR LATCH

Removal
1. Remove the front door trim panel.
2. Remove the bolt and position the interior door handle aside.
3. Position the watershield aside.
4. If equipped, disconnect the exterior mirror electrical connector.
5. If equipped, disconnect the keyless entry keypad and front door disarm switch electrical connectors.
6. Push the wiring harness grommet through the door module.
7. Connect the window regulator and window switch electrical connectors and position the front door window to access the window glass clamp bolts.
8. Disconnect the window regulator and window switch electrical connectors.

NOTE: The forward window glass clamp bolt is accessed through the wiring harness grommet hole.

9. Loosen the 2 window glass clamp bolts.
- Position the window fully up and secure it with tape.

10. If equipped, remove the door lock cylinder circlip and position the front door lock cylinder rod and pawl aside.
11. If equipped, remove the front door lock cylinder pawl from the actuating rod.
12. Open the yellow clip and disconnect the exterior door handle actuating rod from the front door latch.
13. Remove the 3 front door latch bolts.
14. Remove the 11 bolts and position the door module aside.
15. Disconnect the door ajar switch and the door lock actuator electrical connectors.
16. Disconnect the push button rod from the front door latch.
17. Remove the rain hat from the latch.
1 Remove the push pin.
2 Remove the rain hat.







18. Release the interior door handle cable from the latch.







19. Remove the front door latch from the bracket.
- If necessary, remove the door lock actuator and the door ajar switch.

Installation

NOTE: If necessary, install the door ajar switch and the door lock actuator.

1. If equipped, position the door disarm switch and the door lock cylinder pawl on the door lock cylinder and install the circlip.
2. Install the front door latch on the bracket.
3. Connect the interior door handle cable to the latch.







4. Install the rain hat on the latch.
5. Connect the push button rod to the front door latch.
6. Connect the door ajar switch and the door lock actuator electrical connectors.
7. Position the door module and install the 11 bolts.
- Tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).

8. Install the 3 front door latch bolts.
- Tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

9. CAUTION:
- The exterior door handle and the door latch must be installed and tightened to specification before connecting the exterior door handle actuating rod with the yellow clip.
- The exterior door handle actuating rod must be hanging freely then clipped into the door latch. Loading the exterior door handle actuating rod up or down when connecting may result in a misadjustment of the latch causing the latch not to operate correctly.


Connect the exterior door handle actuating rod to the front door latch and close the yellow clip.

10. If equipped, connect the front door lock cylinder actuating rod to the front door lock cylinder pawl.

11. Install the 2 window glass clamp bolts.
- Position the window in both the window clamps.
- Shift the door window glass fully rearward.
- Tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).

12. Push the wiring harness grommet through the door module.
13. If equipped, connect the keyless entry keypad and front door disarm switch electrical connectors.
14. If equipped, connect the exterior mirror electrical connector.
15. Install the watershield.
16. Position the interior door handle and loosely install the bolt.
17. Install the front door trim panel.
18. Center the interior door handle alignment pins to the front door trim panel and install the interior door handle bolt.
- Tighten to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
