Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the exhaust flexible pipe.
3. Remove the 4 driveshaft-to-power transfer unit (PTU) output flange bolts. Disconnect the driveshaft from the PTU and position it aside.
^ Using mechanic's wire, support the driveshaft.

4. CAUTION: Rotational torque of the power transfer unit (PTU) rear output shaft flange must be measured and recorded using a Nm (lb-inch) torque wrench for correct pinion bearing preload when reassembled. This will be the torque-to-turn measurement.

Using a suitable torque wrench, measure and record the rotational torque.

5. Using the special tool to hold the output flange, remove the pinion nut. Discard the nut.

6. NOTE: Index-mark the output flange to the pinion shaft.

7. NOTE: The slinger behind the seal may fall out when the seal is removed.

Remove and discard the output shaft seal, then remove the slinger.
8. Remove and discard the collapsible spacer.

Installation
1. Install a new collapsible spacer.
2. Install the slinger, then using the special tools, install the new output shaft seal.

Using the special tool, remove the output flange.

3. NOTE: Install the output flange to engage the spline as previously marked.

Install the output flange.

4. CAUTION: Do not overtighten the pinion nut. Refer to the rotational torque previously recorded with the Nm (lb-inch) torque wrench. Tighten the pinion nut in small increments until it is 0.3 Nm (3 lb-inch) of the reference measurement. If you exceed 0.3 Nm (3 lb-inch) over the base measurement, then the collapsible spacer will be damaged and a new spacer will be required.

Using the special tool to hold the output flange, install the new pinion nut.

5. Connect the driveshaft to the PTU. Install the 4 driveshaft-to-PTU output flange bolts.
^ To install, tighten to 70 Nm (52 lb-ft).
6. Install the exhaust flexible pipe.
7. Lower the vehicle.
