6F50 TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES - SERVICED AS
ASSEMBLY

FORD:
2008 Taurus X, Taurus

MERCURY:
2008 Sable

ISSUE
The transmission cooler lines for the 2008 Taurus, Taurus X and Sable are now serviced as an assembly. They will no longer be serviced as individual lines. The new cooler line assembly has a bracket to support the cooler lines.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

The new cooler line assembly has a bracket to support the cooler lines and this bracket must be installed by drilling a 5/16" hole in the front support next to the radiator. Follow the service procedure to install the cooler line assembly and bracket.

Remove both of the existing cooler lines from the combo cooler and transmission cooling bypass valve.

1. Open the existing constant tensions clamps at the combo cooler hose-tube-clamp joints (transmission oil cooler ports) and slide them down onto the hose in preparation to remove the rubber hoses.

NOTE
THE CLAMPS CANNOT BE REUSED.

2. Remove the rubber hoses from the combo cooler ports.

NOTE
DO NOT CUT THE RUBBER COOLER LINES OFF THE COOLER PORTS: CUTTING THE HOSES OFF WITH A KNIFE OR OTHER SHARP OBJECT CAN SCORE THE COOLER PORTS AND RESULT IN TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAKING FROM THE JOINT. IF CUTTING THE HOSES IS NECESSARY DO NOT CUT THE HOSES COMPLETELY THROUGH TO THE COOLER PORTS.

3. Remove the plastic secondary latches at the transmission cooling bypass valve located on the transmission oil pan studs.

4. Disconnect the tubes from the quick connect fittings at the transmission cooling bypass valve using disconnect tool 307-569.

5. Drill 5/16" diameter hole in radiator support bracket. (Figures 1-2).

NOTE
DO NOT DRILL THE HOLE OVER SIZE, AN OVER SIZE DIAMETER HOLE WILL NOT ALLOW THE CLIP TO SECURE TO THE SUPPORT BRACKET RESULTING IN DAMAGED HOSES.

6. Install the new transmission cooler line assembly to the combo cooler and transmission cooling bypass valve, and push the clip on the cooler line assembly bracket into the 5/16" hole in the radiator support. Then follow the service manual procedure to complete the installation of the cooler lines.
