ISSUE
Some 2008-2009 Taurus, Taurus X, Sable and 2009 MKS and Flex vehicles built on or before 4/20/2009 may exhibit inconsistent register discharge air temperatures.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Verify the vehicle is equipped with a white evaporator temperature sensor located on the lower housing portion of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) case just to the right side of the accelerator pedal. It may be necessary to disconnect the grey wire harness connector to determine the color of the sensor.
a. If the evaporator temperature sensor is black, do not perform this procedure. Follow Workshop Manual diagnosis.
b. If the evaporator temperature sensor is white - replace the white evaporator temperature sensor with a new black evaporator temperature sensor.
