Removal
WARNING: To reduce the risk of personal injury, do not use any memory saver devices.
CAUTION: It is necessary to carry out the occupant classification sensor (OCS) system reset when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new trim cover is installed, or an OCS service kit is installed. A scan tool is used to trigger the active command to carry out the OCS system reset.
NOTE:
- If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the supplemental restraint system (SRS) must be depowered.
- The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
- The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
- The memory seat track position sensors are integral to the memory seat track motors. The memory seat track motor electrical connectors will connect to a seat track without the memory option. Make sure the correct seat track is being installed.
All seats
1. Position the seat to access all the seat track-to-floor pan bolts and the safety belt anchor.
2. Depower the SRS.
3. Remove the front seat.
Seats with manual recline
4. Pull out and remove the manual recline handle.
Power seats
5. Remove the seat control switch knob.
Seats with power recline
6. Remove the power backrest adjust knob.
All seats
7. Remove the rear screw, pull out on the side and front and separate the side shield.
- Vehicles with manual seats, remove the side shield.
Power seats
8. Release the seat control switch wire harness pin-type retainer. Remove the seat control switch, disconnect it and remove the side shield.
Heated seats
9. Disconnect the cushion heated seat element electrical connector.
All seats
10. Release all cushion trim cover-to-seat cushion pan J-clips.
11. Separate the pin-type retainer and disconnect the buckle switch electrical connector.
Passenger seats
12. Separate the safety belt tension sensor electrical connector from the seat track.
13. Remove the cushion pan-to-seat track bolt.
- To install, tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
14. Remove the safety belt buckle nut and safety belt buckle.
- To install, tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft).
All seats
15. Release the hook and loop strip at the rear of the cushion trim cover.
- Driver seats and passenger seats equipped with an OEM OCS, remove the foam pad and trim cover.
- When installing, make sure the safety belt buckle is positioned through the seat cushion trim cover opening.
16. Disconnect and separate the under seat electrical connectors attached to the seat track bracket.
1 Separate the 11-way electrical connector and wire harness.
2 Vehicles equipped with power seats, separate the main power feed electrical connector.
Driver seat
17. Disconnect the SRS seat position sensor electrical connector.
Power seats
18. NOTE: Before disconnecting the power seat track motor electrical connectors, determine which connector goes to each motor and label to aid in installation.
Disconnect all the power seat track motor electrical connectors.
Passenger seat
19. NOTE: Make sure the pressure sensor is correctly installed and retained to the seat track bracket and the pressure sensor hose is not kinked during installation.
Bend the tab and slide the pressure sensor off the seat track bracket.
- When installing, bend the tab back before sliding the pressure sensor onto the bracket.
Power passenger seat with a service kit OCS
20. Detach the OCS service kit electrical connector from the seat track.
Manual passenger seat with a service kit OCS
21. Detach the OCS service kit ECU and seat wiring harness electrical connector.
1 Detach the OCS service kit electrical connector from the seat track.
2 Remove the tie strap retaining the unused pressure sensor electrical connector of the seat wiring harness.
22. Lift the foam pad, trim cover and bladder and move aside to access the seat track nuts.
- When installing, make sure the safety belt buckle is positioned through the seat cushion trim cover opening.
All seats
23. Remove the 4 nuts and the seat track.
- To install, tighten to 33 Nm (24 lb-ft).
24. NOTE: The memory seat track position sensors are integral to the memory seat track motors. The memory seat track motor electrical connectors will connect to a seat track without the memory option. Make sure the correct seat track is being installed.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
25. Install the seat.
26. Repower the SRS. Do not prove out the SRS at this time.
Passenger seat
27. WARNING: Do not separate the OCS system components.
CAUTION:
- It is necessary to carry out the OCS system reset when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new trim cover installed or an OCS service kit is installed. A scan tool is used to trigger the active command to carry out the OCS system reset.
- Make sure the seat is completely assembled before carrying out the OCS system reset.
- The following precautions must be taken before carrying out the OCS system reset.
- Make sure the OCS system components are connected and no faults are present.
- Make sure the OCS system is not at a temperature below 0°C (32°F) or above 45°C (113°F) when initiating the OCS system reset process. If the vehicle has been exposed to extreme cold or hot temperatures, the vehicle must be exposed and kept at a temperature within the limits, 0°C to 45°C (32°F to 113°F) for a minimum of 30 minutes.
- Make sure nothing is present on the passenger seat before carrying out the OCS system reset and nothing is placed on the seat during the process.
- Make sure a minimum 8-second time period has passed after cycling the ignition switch ON before carrying out the OCS system reset process.
NOTE:
- For best results, the OCS system reset should be at or near room temperature, 10°C to 29°C (50°F to 85°F).
- If the first attempt to carry out the OCS system reset is unsuccessful, a second attempt must be made.
Carry out the OCS system reset active command using a scan tool.
- With the front passenger seat empty, use a scan tool to trigger the active command.
28. NOTE: The ignition switch must be cycled after the OCS system reset.
Cycle the ignition switch from ON to OFF.
All seats
29. Prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS) as follows: Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF. Wait 10 seconds, then turn the key back to ON and visually monitor the air bag indicator with the air bag modules installed. The air bag indicator will light continuously for approximately 6 seconds and then turn off. If an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault is present, the air bag indicator will:
- fail to light.
- remain lit continuously.
- flash.
The flashing might not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned from the OFF to the ON position. This is the time required for the restraints control module (RCM) to complete the testing of the SRS. If the air bag indicator is inoperative and a SRS fault exists, a chime will sound in a pattern of 5 sets of 5 beeps. If this occurs, the air bag indicator and any SRS fault discovered must be diagnosed and repaired.
Clear all continuous DTCs from the restraints control module using a scan tool.
