Starter Motor: Service and Repair

STARTER MOTOR







Removal and Installation

WARNING: When carrying out maintenance on the starting system, be aware that heavy gauge leads are connected directly to the battery. Make sure protective caps are in place when maintenance is completed.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.







3. If equipped, remove the 7 screws and the underbody cover.
4. Remove the starter motor solenoid wire nut and position the wire aside.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

5. Position the starter motor solenoid battery cable terminal cover aside.
6. Remove the starter motor solenoid battery cable nut and position the cable aside.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

7. Disconnect the wiring harness retainer from the top and bottom starter motor stud bolt and position the wiring harness aside.
8. Remove the starter motor stud bolt, bolt and the starter motor.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

9. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
