Removal and Installation
1. WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the backup power supply must be depleted before repairing or replacing any front or side air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) components and before servicing, replacing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side air bag sensors, such as doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches.
Please refer to the appropriate information to determine location of the front air bag sensors.
The side air bag sensors are located at or near the base of the B-pillar.
To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).
Disconnect the battery ground cable. Wait at least one minute before proceeding with the procedure to allow the backup power supply to deplete its energy.
2. Remove the instrument panel finish panel and disconnect the electrical connector.
3. Lift the console finish panel and remove.
4. Push shift handle bezel down and disconnect TC switch harness.
5. Remove the 2 shift handle retaining screws and remove the shift handle.
6. Lift the indicator bezel and remove the bulb.
7. Release the interlock cable housing clip and disconnect the interlock cable.
8. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever assembly.
9. Release the selector lever cable housing clip from the selector lever assembly.
10. Release the electrical connector pushpin retainer from the selector lever assembly.
11. Disconnect the electrical connector.
12. Disconnect the vacuum harness from the parking brake release mechanism.
13. Remove 4 nuts retaining selector lever to floor and remove the selector lever.
^ To install, tighten to 11 Nm (8 lb-ft).
14. NOTE: When installing the selector lever cable, make sure that the selector lever cable locking tabs are locked in place and the cable end is snapped onto the ball stud. Press the selector lever cable into the bracket and listen for the cable to click in place. Pull back on the selector lever cable to make sure that it is locked into the bracket. Also make sure that the selector lever cable end is correctly installed onto the ball stud. Pull back on the selector lever cable end to make sure that the cable end is correctly installed.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
