Battery Cable: Service and Repair

BATTERY CABLES


Vehicles Equipped With An Aisin Transaxle (Part 1):

Removal and Installation

All vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery.
3. Remove the bolt and position the body ground cable aside.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

4. Remove the nut and position the battery junction box (BJB) cable aside.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).

5. If equipped, disconnect the battery cable harness electrical connector from the BJB wiring harness.
6. Disconnect the battery cable harness locators from the battery tray.

Vehicles equipped with Aisin transaxle
7. Remove the starter terminal cover, the starter B+ cable nut and position the battery cable harness aside.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

8. Remove the engine ground cable bolt.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

9. Disconnect the battery harness locators from the top of the transaxle and engine wiring harness.

Vehicles equipped with CVT
10. Remove the engine ground cable bolt.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

11. Remove the starter terminal cover, the starter B+ cable nut and position the battery cable harness aside.
- To install, tighten to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).

12. Disconnect the battery cable harness locators from the front of the transaxle.
13. Disconnect the battery cable harness locators from the top of the transaxle.

All vehicles
14. Disconnect the battery cable harness locators from the valve cover.
15. Remove the pin-type retainer and position the generator boot upward to gain access to the generator electrical connectors.
16. Position the protective boot aside, remove the nut and generator B+ cable.
- To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).

17. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
18. Disconnect the battery cable harness in-line electrical connector.
19. Remove the battery cables.
20. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
