Muffler: Service and Repair

Muffler and Tailpipe

Removal and Installation

NOTE: Do not use oil or grease-based lubricants on the isolators. They may cause deterioration of the rubber.

NOTE: Oil or grease-based lubricants on the isolators may cause the exhaust hanger isolator to separate from the exhaust hanger bracket during vehicle operation.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.





2. Support the muffler and tailpipe with a suitable jackstand.

3. CAUTION: Do not excessively bend or twist the flexible pipe.

Support the catalytic converter with a suitable jackstand.
4. Remove the Torca clamp.
5. Separate the 4 or 5 muffler and tailpipe isolators from the vehicle.
6. Separate the muffler and tailpipe from the catalytic converter and remove the muffler and tailpipe.
7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
8. Start the engine and check for exhaust leaks.
