Test A: The Air Bag Indicator Is Illuminated Continuously/No Communication With the Restraints Control Module (RCM)

PINPOINT TEST A: THE AIR BAG INDICATOR IS ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY/NO COMMUNICATION WITH THE RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM)

NOTE: During normal operation, the air bag indicator will illuminate continuously for 6 seconds after the ignition switch is placed to the RUN or ON position. Be sure to cycle the ignition switch and look for a 6-second indicator prove-out without DTCs.

Normal Operation
The restraints control module (RCM) will communicate diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) to the diagnostic tool through the data link connector (DLC).

Possible Causes
An air bag indicator that is illuminated continuously or no communication with the RCM can be caused by:
- a DTC.
- damaged wiring, terminals or connectors.
- damaged ignition circuit.
- RCM disconnected from the vehicle harness.
- a loss of RCM ground.
- loss of RCM battery feed.
- instrument cluster module.
- RCM is faulted.
