Selector Lever Cable and Bracket - Column ShifterRemoval
1. WARNING: Turn off the electrical power to the air suspension prior to hoisting, jacking, or towing an air suspension equipped vehicle. Failure to do so can result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs, which can result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
If equipped, turn the air suspension switch to the OFF position.
2. WARNING: If equipped with fire suppression system, depower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to Fire Suppression System.
With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Maintenance/Service and Repair.
3. Disconnect the shift cable from the transmission.
1 Remove the nut and disconnect the shift cable from the manual control lever.
2 Disconnect the shift cable from the shift cable bracket.
3 Remove and discard the shift cable retainer.
4. Unclip the shift cable from the clips that route the cable upward toward the top of the engine compartment.
5. Remove the bolts and the shift cable bracket from the transmission.
6. From the engine compartment, unclip the shift cable from the clip that routes the cable toward the bulkhead.
7. Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column.
1 Disconnect the shift cable from the transmission selector lever arm and support.
2 Disconnect the shift cable from the steering column bracket.
3 Remove and discard the shift cable retainer.
8. From the engine compartment, use a suitable tool to push the rubber grommet through the bulkhead.
9. From the passenger compartment, remove the shift cable from the vehicle.
Installation
1. From inside the vehicle, feed the shift cable through the opening in the bulkhead and downward toward the transmission.
2. Seat the shift cable rubber grommet in the bulkhead opening.
3. Connect the shift cable to the steering column.
1 Install the new shift cable retainer.
2 Connect the shift cable to the steering column bracket.
3 Connect the shift cable to the transmission selector lever arm and support.
4. Place the gearshift lever in the (D) position.
5. Hang a 1.4 kg (3 lbs.) weight on the gearshift lever.
6. From the engine compartment, clip the shift cable to the clip that routes the cable toward the bulkhead.
7. Position the shift cable bracket and install the bolts.
^ Tighten to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).
8. Connect the shift cable to the shift cable bracket. Do not connect the shift cable to the manual control lever at this time.
1 Install the new shift cable retainer.
2 Connect the shift cable to the shift cable bracket.
9. Clip the shift cable to the clips that route the cable upward toward the top of the engine compartment.
10. Adjust the shift cable.
11. WARNING: If equipped with fire suppression system, repower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to Fire Suppression System.
If equipped with fire suppression system, repower the system.
12. After completing all adjustments, and with the vehicle on the ground, turn on the electrical power to the air suspension, if so equipped.
