Removal and Installation
WARNING:
- Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
- Do not carry personal electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers or audio equipment of any type when working on or near any fuel-related components. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions can result in personal injury.
- The electrical power to the air suspension system must be shut off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing an air suspension vehicle. This can be accomplished by turning the air suspension switch located in the luggage compartment on the LH side to the OFF position. Failure to do so may result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs which may result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations.
1. WARNING: If equipped with fire suppression system, depower the system. For important safety warnings and procedures, refer to Fire Suppression System.
With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. CAUTION: Do not damage the retainer ring during removal or the filler cap may not seal.
Remove the 4 outer ring retaining bolts.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
4. Remove the 4 inner pocket retaining bolts.
- To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
5. Disconnect the vapor recirculation tube quick connect coupling.
6. CAUTION: The dogpoint screw has a blunt end and must be used.
Remove the screw.
To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
7. Position a suitable lifting device under the fuel tank.
8. NOTE: Discard old retaining nuts. Do not reuse.
Remove the fuel tank strap retaining nuts and position the straps away from the fuel tank.
- To install, tighten to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft).
9. Partially lower the fuel tank to allow fuel tank filler pipe removal.
10. Remove the fuel tank filler pipe assembly.
- Rotate the fuel tank filler pipe counterclockwise 1/2 turn and remove from the fuel tank.
11. Remove the fuel tank filler pipe grommet and discard.
- Upon installation, coat with petroleum jelly.
12. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

If equipped with fire suppression, repower the system.
