Interior - Driver's Seat Cushion Sagging

DRIVER'S SEAT CUSHION SAGGING

This article supersedes TSB 05-22-14 to update vehicle lines.
ISSUE
Some 2005-2006 Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis vehicles built from 12/6/2004 to 12/13/2005 may exhibit the driver's side lower seat cushion sagging.
ACTION
Replace the driver's side lower seat woven support with a new seat cushion shield, steel seat cushion support and springs. Refer to the following Service Procedure.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
WARNING
ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN REPAIRING AN AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) VEHICLE AND WHEN HANDLING AN AIR BAG MODULE. THIS WILL REDUCE THE RISK OF INJURY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT.
1. Remove the driver's seat per the Workshop Manual, Section 501-10.
2. Position the seat on it side with the seat belt buckle facing down.
3. If equipped, remove the power lumbar switch bezel, disconnect the electrical connector and set the switch aside.
NOTE
TAKE CARE WHEN REMOVING THE POWER LUMBAR BEZEL. DEPRESS THE BEZEL TABS FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF THE SEAT FRAME. REFER TO FIGURE 1.
4. Release the seat cover retainer J-clips on the left, right, and front side of the lower seat cushion. (Figure 2)
NOTE
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE REAR J-CLIP.
5. Remove the seat belt buckle nut and position the buckle bracket out of the way. (Figure 3)
NOTE
IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO DISCONNECT THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ELECTRICAL CONNECTION.
6. Push the seat cover and cushion towards the seat back.
7. Remove the two (2) plastic pin-type retainers, which attach the seat mat to the metal frame and discard. Refer to part "A" on Figure 4.
8. Using vise grips pliers or equivalent, remove the six (6) woven seat cover retainer clips that attach the woven seat cushion support to the seat frame and discard the support. Refer to part "B" on Figure 4.
9. Position the seat in an upright position.
10. Secure the steel seat cushion support into the four (4) locating holes on the seat frame as shown in Figure 5.
11. Install three (3) of the new springs on the right side of the seat first. (Figure 6)
NOTE
THE OPEN END OF THE SPRING SHOULD ALWAYS FACE DOWNWARD SO THAT THEY DO NOT DAMAGE THE SEAT CUSHION REFER TO FIGURE 6.
12. Use vise grip pliers or equivalent to install the remaining three (3) springs. (Figure 6)
13. Place mesh shield on top of the new steel seat cushion support. (Figure 7)
14. Reinstall seat belt buckle nut and Torque to 30 lb-ft (40 N.m).
15. Reassemble seat by reversing the disassembly procedure in Steps 3 to 4 and install seat and reactivate the SRS system per the Workshop Manual, Section 501-10.
