Removal
All vehicles
1. Place the transaxle range selector lever in the PARK position.
2. Remove the battery.
3. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and the breather tubes.
4. Remove the engine air cleaner and intake tube.
5. Remove the air filter assembly.
6. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
7. Disconnect the electrical connector.
8. Remove the power steering line bracket.
9. Remove the electrical connector bracket.
10. Disconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor connector.
11. Install the Engine Support Bar.
3.0L 4V engines
12. Remove the upper cowl assembly.
1 Remove the wiper.
2 Remove the clips.
3 Remove the upper cowl assembly.
13. Remove the lower cowl assembly.
14. Remove the rear support brace.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Remove the nut.
3 Remove the rear support brace.
15. Install the rear engine lifting bracket in the same location where the top bolt was removed from the rear support brace.
3.0L 2V engines
16. Install the engine lifting bracket on the right (back) hand side of the engine.
17. Install the engine lifting bracket on the left (front) hand side of the engine.
3.0L 4V engines
18. Remove the nut for the cooling tube.
19. Install the engine lifting bracket.
All vehicles
20. Raise the vehicle.
21. Remove the LH wheel and tire.
22. Remove the five LH front inner fender splash shield retainers.
23. Remove the LH transaxle support and insulator.
24. Remove mount bracket.
25. NOTE: It will be necessary to lower the left side of the subframe to remove the pan through the wheel well.
Remove the bolts and remove the transaxle side pan and gasket.
26. CAUTION: Do not pull on the wires or the electrical connectors. Damage to the connectors will result.
Lift the locking tab and disconnect the electrical connectors.
27. Position the transaxle wiring harness out of the way.
28. CAUTION: Do not remove the two bolts that hold the pump assembly and main control valve body together as the pump assembly may fall from the main control valve body.
CAUTION: Only 4 of the 6 pump cover bolts need to be removed.
Remove the bolts.
29. Disconnect the manual linkage.
30. Remove the main pump assembly and the main control valve body by carefully sliding it off the pump shaft.
Installation
All vehicles
1. Install the pump assembly and main control valve body onto the pump shaft.
2. Rotate the pump assembly and main control valve body to connect the manual valve link with the manual valve.
3. CAUTION: Do not use the bolts to draw pump assembly and main control valve body onto the chain cover case. Component damage may occur.
Install retaining bolt and tighten in sequence.
4. Install the transaxle wire harness retaining clip into the separator plate.
5. Connect the electrical connectors.
6. NOTE: The transaxle side cover gasket is reusable if not torn or ripped.
Remove the gasket. Clean and inspect the gasket, reinstall gasket onto the pan.
7. Install the pan.
8. Install the mount bracket.
9. NOTE: It will be necessary to reinstall the left side of the subframe.
For subframe alignment procedure, and bolt specification, refer to the installation procedure.
Install the LH transaxle support and insulator.
10. Install the LH front fender splash shield and the five retainers.
11. Install the LH wheel and tire.
3.0L 4V engines
12. Remove the Engine Lifting Bracket.
13. Install the rear support brace.
1 Install the rear support brace.
2 Install the bolt.
3 Install the nut.
14. Install the lower cowl assembly.
15. Install the wiper.
1 Install the upper cowl assembly.
2 Install the clips.
3 Install the wiper.
16. Remove the engine lifting bracket.
17. Install the nut for the cooling tube.
3.0L 2V engines
18. Remove the LH engine lifting bracket.
19. Remove the RH engine lifting bracket.
20. Remove the special tools.
All vehicles
21. Reconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor connector.
22. Install the electrical connector bracket.
23. Install the power steering line bracket.
24. Reconnect the electrical connector.
25. Reconnect the electrical connectors.
26. Install the air filter assembly.
27. Install the engine air cleaner and tube.
28. Reconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and the breather tubes.
29. Reinstall the battery.
30. Fill the transaxle assembly with one quart of clean automatic transmission fluid.
31. Start the engine. Move the transaxle range selector lever through all positions. Check the fluid level.
