PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION

The autolamp feature provides automatic control the headlamps and parking lamps. The automatic headlamps are activated when the driver selects autolamps and the ignition switch is in the RUN position. When the headlamp switch is placed in the autolamp position, the smart junction box (SJB) monitors the photocell sensor. The photocell sensor detects the light level outside of the vehicle, and turn, the SJB determines whether to turn the exterior lamps on or off. The feature is deactivated when the driver turns the autolamp feature off or when the ignition switch is placed in the OFF or ACC positions.

The autolamp feature also delays turning off the exterior lamps after the ignition switch is placed the OFF or ACC positions. The delay period for turning off the exterior lamps is 20 seconds.
