Power Transfer Unit (PTU) Removal

Power Transfer Unit (PTU)
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Remove the LH and RH front halfshafts.





3. Remove the 2 front exhaust pipe nuts.





4. Remove the 2 rear exhaust pipe nuts.





5. Remove the 2 catalytic converter pipe bolts, disconnect the rubber hanger and remove the pipe.

6. NOTE: To maintain the initial driveshaft balance, index-mark the driveshaft flange and the output flange.

Index-mark the driveshaft.





7. Remove the 2 outer driveshaft brace bolts.





8. NOTE: The driveshaft flange can stay in the power transfer unit (PTU) flange. It does not need to be removed.

Remove the 6 driveshaft flange bolts from the front driveshaft flange.





9. Remove the upper PTU bracket bolts and the bracket.
10. Remove the 4 PTU bolts and the PTU.
