Side Shaft Gear Assembly

Disassembly

NOTE: Note the side gear assembly is model-dependent, depending on gear ratio.

If there is excessive contamination present, this entire procedure will need to be carried out. Inspect the side shaft gear assembly for damage. If no damage is indicated the installation of a new O-ring seal and dust cover only will be required.

1. Inspect the side shaft gear assembly for damage (chipped teeth, worn bearing or contamination). If no damage or contamination is indicated the installation of a new O-ring seal and dust cover will only be required.





2. Remove and discard the side gear assembly O-ring seal.





3. Remove the rubber dust cover.





4. NOTE: It may be necessary to press the gear assembly into the cover to remove the snap ring.

If required, remove the snap ring.





5. If required, using the special tool, press the gear from the bearing.





6. If required, remove the bearing retaining snap ring.





7. If required, using the special tools, press the bearing out of the cover.

Assembly





1. If removed, position the new bearing in place.





2. If removed, using the special tools, press the bearing into the cover.





3. If removed, install the bearing retaining snap ring.





4. If removed, press the gear assembly into the cover.





5. If removed, install the snap ring.





6. Using the special tool, install a new rubber dust cover.





7. Install a new side gear assembly O-ring seal.
