ISSUE
Some 2005 Five Hundred/Freestyle/Montego vehicles built 1/1/2005 through 2/28/2005 may exhibit an intermittent false perimeter alarm system activation. The turn signal lamps will flash and the horn will sound.
ACTION
It may be necessary to replace the hood switch. Using WDS or NGS+, review alarm event PID data in the smart junction box (SJB). Alarm events will be listed as: AL_EVI1 AL_EVT2 AL_EVT3 AL_EVT4 AL_EVT5 AL_EVT6 AL_EVT7, AL_EVT8. The most recent event will be stored in AL_EVI1 prior events will be moved down one slot each time a new event is stored. The hood event will display as "Hood Ajar". Replace the hood switch if it is listed as the cause of the event. Verify the new switch has a date code of 5CA or later on the side of the switch. If the alarm was caused by another switch, proceed with normal diagnostics in Workshop Manual Section 419-01 A.
NOTE
THE SCAN TOOL WILL REFER TO THE SJB AS
A GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE (GEM).
NOTE
THE DATE CODE ON THE NEW HOOD SWITCH CAN BE INTERPRETED AS FOLLOWS: 5 = 2005, C = MARCH, AND A = THE FIRST WEEK OF THE MONTH. SWITCHES PRODUCED LATER THAN 5CA WILL HAVE CODES OF 5CB, 5CC, 5CD, 5DA AND SO ON.
