Removal

WARNING: To prevent glass splinters from entering eyes or cutting hands, wear safety glasses and heavy gloves when cutting glass from the vehicle.

1. Remove the parcel shelf, C-pillar, and D-pillar trim panels.







2. NOTE: Lubricate the existing urethane adhesive with water to aid the special tool while cutting.

Using the special tool, place the flat side of the knife against the quarter glass window. Start cutting the glass at the middle of the D-pillar, and work toward the roof.

3. Remove the rear quarter window glass.
4. Using a soft brush or vacuum, remove any dirt or foreign material from the pinch weld.

Installation

CAUTION: When bonding glass to the vehicle body with urethane, the vehicle must not be driven until the urethane adhesive has cured. At temperatures above 21°C (70°F) and relative humidities above 50%, adequate cure time is typically 24 hours. (Refer to Essex drive away chart for the cure times, as temperatures and humidity will cause cure times to vary.) Inadequate or incorrect curing can adversely affect the bonding of the quarter window glass.







1. NOTE: Avoid scratching the pinch weld.

Trim the remaining urethane adhesive to specification. The urethane adhesive must be smooth and free of cuts and contamination after trimming. Avoid touching the urethane adhesive after preparation.

2. Using a clean applicator, apply the Urethane Metal Primer Essex U-413 meeting Ford specification WSB-M2G234-C to any exposed metal on the pinch weld. Allow 6 to 10 minutes to dry.
3. If reinstalling the original rear quarter window glass, remove most of the original urethane adhesive, leaving 1-2 mm on the glass.
4. Clean the rear quarter window glass with a non-alcohol based window cleaner.

5. CAUTION: Wipe off the urethane glass prep immediately after each application because it flash dries.

If installing a new rear quarter window glass, apply urethane glass prep twice around the glass surface to be urethaned.

6. If installing a new rear quarter window glass, apply urethane glass primer to the same area that was prepped in the previous step. Allow 5 minutes to dry.







7. Cut the urethane adhesive applicator tip to specification.







8. Apply a bead of Urethane Adhesive Essex 400-HV meeting Ford specification WSB-M2G316-B to the pinch weld.

9. NOTE: Before the urethane has set, partially lower the windows to prevent the glass from being pushed out of position when a door is closed.

Install the rear quarter window glass.

10. After the glass is set, check for water leaks and add urethane adhesive where needed.
11. Install the parcel shelf, C-pillar, and D-pillar trim panels.
