PRINCIPLES OF OPERATIONWarning Devices
Chimes and tones are produced and managed by the lighting control module (LCM). The LCM provides sound for three different functions: reminder chimes, depression tones for the fuel computer switches and the restraint control module (RCM) warning chime.
The reminder chime alerts the driver to conditions that require attention, such as an unfastened safety belt, the key in the ignition when the driver door is open, or headlamps or parklamps left on with the ignition switch in the OFF position.
When the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START from OFF or ACC, the safety belt warning chime will sound for six seconds or until the safety belt is buckled.
The safety belt warning indicator lamp will turn on for 60 seconds or until the driver safety belt is buckled. Both the chime and lamp will turn on at the same time.
If the safety belt is buckled before the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START from OFF or ACC, neither the chime nor the lamp will be activated.
The key-in-ignition warning chime will sound when the driver side door is opened with the key in the ignition and the ignition switch is in the OFF or ACC position. It will continue to sound until the key is removed, the front door is closed or the ignition switch is turned to RUN or START.
The headlamp-on reminder chime will be activated if the headlamps are on, the key is not in the ignition and the driver door is opened.
The RCM warning chime will sound when a faulty RCM is detected. The RCM requests a tone via a hard-wired signal.
Belt Minder
NOTE: The belt minder feature is configurable. If configuring using a diagnostic tool, refer to Information Bus (Module Communications Network). To configure without using a diagnostic tool, refer to Belt Minder Deactivating/Activating.
The belt minder feature supplements the current safety belt warning function. The belt minder feature is enabled after the current safety belt warning is complete. If the driver safety belt is not buckled approximately five seconds after the safety belt warning light has turned off, the belt minder reminds the driver that their safety belt is unbuckled by intermittently sounding a chime and illuminating the safety belt warning lamp in the instrument cluster. While activated, the belt minder alternates the chime and indicator from on for 6 seconds to off for 30 seconds.
The belt minder stops when:
- the driver safety belt is buckled.
- the ignition is turned to OFF or ACC.
- five minutes have elapsed since the belt minder has started.
