Parking Brake Control

Removal

NOTE: Column shift shown, floor shift similar.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL. position it on the hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery.
3. Release the parking brake control, using the parking brake release handle.
4. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.





5. Pull the parking brake adjuster clip downward.
6. Apply the parking brake control fully.





7. Push up on the parking brake adjuster clip to lock the adjuster.
8. Release the parking brake control, using the parking brake release handle.





9. Disconnect the front parking brake cable and conduit from the cable connector.





10. Unclip the scuff plate and remove the A-Pillar lower trim panel.





11. If equipped, remove the LH instrument panel insulator.
1. Remove the pin-type retaining
2. Position the instrument panel insulator aside.
Disconnect the courtesy lamp.





12. Disconnect the parking brake release handle cable from the parking brake control.





13. Remove the screws and the instrument panel steering column cover with the parking brake release handle.
^ Release the parking brake release handle.





14. Remove the bolts and the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.





15. Loosen the bulkhead wiring connector retaining bolt and disconnect the electrical connector.
^ Position the bulkhead wiring connector aside.
^ Release bulkhead wiring connector from the dash panel and position it inside into the passenger compartment.





16. Remove the steering column brace to parking brake control bolt.





17. Remove the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.





18. Remove the upper instrument panel cowl side bolt.





19. Pull the instrument panel slightly rearward and retain it using a small block of wood.





20. Disconnect the parking brake release vacuum hose from the parking brake release control motor if equipped.





21. Disconnect the parking brake switch electrical connector.





22. Disconnect the front parking brake cable and conduit from the parking brake control.





23. Remove the parking brake control bolts.
24. Remove the parking brake control.

Installation
1. Position the parking brake control.





2. Install the parking brake control bolts.





3. Connect the parking brake switch electrical connector.





4. Connect the front parking brake cable and conduit to the parking brake control.





5. Connect the parking brake release vacuum hose to the parking brake release control motor if equipped.





6. Pull the instrument panel slightly rearward and remove the wood block.





7. Install the instrument panel cowl side bolt.





8. Install the instrument panel cowl side bolt.
9. Place the bulkhead wiring connector into the dash panel.





10. Connect the bulkhead wiring connector and tighten the retaining bolt.





11. Position the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement and the bolts.





12. Install the instrument panel steering column cover, parking brake release handle and screws.





13. Connect the parking brake release handle cable to the parking brake control.





14. If equipped, install the LH instrument panel insulator.
1. Position the LH instrument panel insulator.
2. Install the pin-type retainers.
^ Connect the courtesy lamp.





15. Install the A-Pillar lower trim and scuff plate.





16. Connect the front parking brake cable and conduit to the cable connector.
17. Adjust the parking brake cable tension.
18. Connect the battery.
