Removal and Installation

INSTRUMENT PANEL

Removal

All vehicles

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. Avoid exposing any modules to static electrical charges, as this may cause damage to the modules.

1. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS).







2. From under the hood, loosen the bolt and disconnect the LH bulkhead electrical connector.







3. Release the retainers and position the bulkhead electrical connector through the dash panel.
4. If equipped, remove the floor console.

Vehicles with Police option







5. Position the glove compartment battery junction box (BJB) wiring harness aside.
1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Remove the wire tie(s).

All vehicles
6. If equipped with an instrument panel support brace, open the glove compartment. Disconnect the glove compartment isolator.
7. If equipped with an instrument panel support brace, while pushing in on the 2 glove compartment door tabs, position the glove compartment downward.







8. If equipped, remove the instrument panel support brace bolt through the glove compartment opening.
9. Close the glove compartment.







10. Remove the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
- Remove the pin-type retainers.
- Disconnect the power point electrical connector.
- Disconnect the courtesy lamp.







11. Remove the LH and RH scuff plates.







12. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.







13. Disconnect the antenna cable in-line connector.







14. Remove the 3 RH ground bolts.
15. Disconnect the 3 RH instrument panel wiring harness electrical connectors.







16. If equipped, disconnect the electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) hose from the evaporator housing.







17. Disconnect the climate control head vacuum harness connector.







18. Position the LH and RH front door weatherstrip seals aside.







19. Remove the instrument panel steering column cover.
1 Remove the screws.
2 Remove the instrument panel steering column cover.







20. Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.







21. Position the steering column brace aside.
1 Remove the nut.
2 Position the steering column brace aside.







22. Remove and discard the pinch bolt, and separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column shaft.







23. If equipped with a steering column shift, disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column.
1 Disconnect the cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
2 Disconnect the cable from the steering column bracket.

24. Disconnect the 3 LH instrument panel wiring harness electrical connectors.







25. If equipped with a floor console shift, remove the pin-type retainer and position the carpet aside.







26. If equipped with steering column shift, remove the pin-type retainer and the instrument panel tunnel brace cover.







27. Remove the instrument panel tunnel brace.
1 Remove the nuts.
2 Remove the instrument panel tunnel brace.







28. Remove the defroster opening grille.
- If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors.







29. Remove the 3 instrument panel cowl top screws.







30. Remove the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.







31. Remove the upper LH instrument panel cowl side nut.







32. Remove the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.

33. NOTE: Two technicians are needed to carry out this step.

Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.

Installation

All vehicles

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. Avoid exposing any modules to static electrical charges, as this may cause damage to the modules.

1. NOTE:
- Two technicians are needed to carry out this step.
- Make sure the instrument panel center locator pin is engaged into the cowl top.

Install the instrument panel into the vehicle.







2. Install the 3 instrument panel cowl top screws.







3. Install the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.







4. Install the upper LH instrument panel cowl side nut.







5. Install the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.







6. Install the defroster opening grille.
- If equipped, connect the electrical connector.







7. Install the instrument panel tunnel brace.
1 Position the instrument panel tunnel brace.
2 Install the nuts.







8. If equipped with a steering column shift, install the instrument panel tunnel brace cover and the pin-type retainer.







9. If equipped with a floor console shift, position the carpet and install the pin-type retainer.
10. Connect the 3 LH instrument panel wiring harness electrical connectors.







11. Install the bulkhead electrical connector into the dash panel.







12. If equipped with a steering column shift, connect the transmission shift cable to the steering column.
1 Connect the cable to the steering column bracket.
2 Connect the cable to the steering column shift tube lever.







13. Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering column shaft and install a new pinch bolt.







14. Install the steering column brace.
1 Position the steering column brace.
2 Install the nut.







15. Install the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
1 Position the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
2 Install the bolts.







16. Install the instrument panel steering column cover.
1 Position the instrument panel lower steering column cover.
2 Install the screws.







17. Install the LH and RH front door weatherstrip seals.







18. Connect the climate control head vacuum harness connector.







19. If equipped, connect the EATC hose to the evaporator housing.
20. Connect the 3 RH instrument panel wiring harness electrical connectors.







21. Install the 3 RH ground bolts.







22. Connect the antenna cable in-line connector.







23. Install the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.







24. Install the LH and RH scuff plates.







25. Install the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
- Install the pin-type retainers.
- Connect the power point electrical connector.
- Connect the courtesy lamp.

26. Open the glove compartment.







27. If equipped, install the instrument panel support brace bolt through the glove compartment opening.
28. If equipped with instrument panel support brace, while pushing in on the 2 glove compartment door tabs, position the glove compartment upward.
29. If equipped with instrument panel support brace, connect the glove compartment isolator. Close the glove compartment.

Vehicles with Police option







30. Install the glove compartment battery junction box (BJB) wiring harness.
1 Connect the electrical connector.
2 Install a new wire tie(s).

All vehicles







31. Connect the LH bulkhead electrical connector.
32. If equipped, install the floor console.
33. Repower the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
