Differential Fluid Seals








Special Tool(s)

Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.





2. Remove and discard the RH stabilizer link nut and disconnect the stabilizer bar.





3. Remove and discard the RH cotter pin and tie-rod end nut.





4. CAUTION: Do not damage the tie-rod end boot when installing the special tool.

NOTE: Remove the adapter from the ball end of the special tool. Apply a small amount of grease to the tie-rod end stud and the ball end of the special tool.

Using the special tool, disconnect the RH tie-rod end.





5. Remove and discard the RH lower control arm nut.





6. Using the special tool, disconnect the RH ball joint from the lower arm.





7. NOTE: The use of mechanic's wire will aid in positioning the halfshafts out of the way.

Using the special tools, remove the RH halfshaft from the transaxle and position it out of the way.





8. Remove and discard the LH stabilizer link nut and disconnect the stabilizer bar.





9. Remove and discard the LH cotter pin and tie-rod end nut.





10. CAUTION: Do not damage the tie-rod end boot when installing the special tool.

NOTE: Remove the adapter from the ball end of the special tool. Apply a small amount of grease to the tie-rod end stud and the ball end of the special tool.

Using the special tool, disconnect the LH tie-rod end.





11. Remove and discard the LH lower control arm nut.





12. Using the special tool, disconnect the LH ball joint from the lower arm.





13. NOTE: The use of mechanic's wire will aid in positioning the halfshafts out of the way.

Using the special tools, remove the LH halfshaft from the transaxle and position it out of the way.





14. NOTE: The differential seal is a two-piece constructed seal.

Using the special tools remove, the left differential seal.





15. Using the special tools, remove the LH differential seal.
1 Rotate the special tool.
2 Rotate the forcing screw while holding the special tool.
3 Remove the metal protector from the LH differential seal and remove the protector from the tool.





16. Using the special tools, remove the rubber portion of the LH differential seal.
1 Install the special tool into the LH differential seal and rotate the special tool.
2 Rotate the forcing screw while holding the special tool.
3 Remove the rubber portion of the seal.





17. Install the special tools into the RH differential seal.





18. Using the special tools remove the RH differential seal metal protector.
1 Rotate the special tool.
2 Rotate the forcing screw while holding the special tool.
3 Remove the metal protector of the seal.





19. Using the special tools remove the rubber portion of the seal.
1 Rotate the special tool.
2 Rotate the forcing screw while holding the special tool.
3 Remove the rubber portion of the seal.

Installation





1. Using the special tools install the LH differential seal.





2. Using the special tools install the RH seal.
3. Install the RH halfshaft assembly.





4. Using a new nut, connect the RH lower control arm.





5. Using a new nut, connect the RH stabilizer bar.





6. Using a new nut and cotter pin, connect the RH tie-rod end.
7. Install the LH halfshaft assembly.





8. Using a new nut, connect the LH lower control arm.





9. Using a new nut, connect the LH stabilizer bar.





10. Using a new nut and cotter pin, connect the LH tie-rod end.
