Steering Column

Removal and Installation

All vehicles
1. Place the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.

3. WARNING: To avoid the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, notes and instructions in the deactivation procedure.

Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).

4. Remove the clockspring.





5. Remove the bolts, disconnect the two electrical connectors and remove the multi-function switch.





6. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.





Vehicles with column shift
7. Disconnect the brake shift interlock solenoid electrical connector.





All vehicles
8. Disconnect and remove the passive anti-theft system (PATS) sensor ring.





9. Disconnect the electrical connectors.





Vehicles with column shift
10. Remove the bolt and disconnect the transmission range indicator (PRND21) from the steering column.





All vehicles
11. Remove the pinch bolt and disconnect the intermediate shaft from the isolator.
^ Discard the bolt.





12. Remove the four nuts and lower the steering column.





Vehicles with column shift
13. Disconnect the parking brake release vacuum hose extension from the parking brake release switch.





14. Disconnect the shift cable and bracket and remove the column.

All vehicles
15. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
