DIAGNOSING CUSTOMER CONCERNS WITH HARD DTCsThe air bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) diagnostic procedures will require deactivation and reactivation of the SRS. Deactivation will require the following:
- removal of the driver and passenger air bags.
- disconnection of the seat side air bags.
- disconnection of the safety belt retractor pretensioners.
- installation of restraint system diagnostic tools.
This reduces the risk of deployment of air bag modules and safety belt pretensioners while diagnostics are being carried out.
If the air bag indicator is illuminated when the vehicle comes in for service, refer to Inspection and Verification. Inspection and Verification
Restraint system diagnostic tools are required for the diagnosis and testing of the SRS. It is not acceptable to short-circuit the air bag module connections with a jumper wire. If a jumper wire is used to short-circuit the air bag module connections. A Lamp Fault Code (LFC) will be displayed.
