Fuel Filler Hose: Service and Repair

FUEL TANK FILLER PIPE

REMOVAL

WARNING:
- Do not smoke or carry lighted tobacco or open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited, resulting in possible personal injury.
- Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure even when the engine is not running. Before servicing or disconnecting any of the fuel system components, the fuel system pressure must be relieved to prevent accidental spraying of fuel, causing personal injury or a fire hazard.
- The electrical power to the air suspension system must be shut off prior to hoisting, jacking or towing an air suspension vehicle. This can be accomplished by turning the air suspension switch located in the luggage compartment on the LH side to the off position. Failure to do so may result in unexpected inflation or deflation of the air springs which may result in shifting of the vehicle during these operations.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Drain the fuel tank.







3. CAUTION: Do not damage the retainer ring during removal or the filler cap may not seal.

Remove the screws.

4. Raise the vehicle.
5. Remove the LH rear wheel and tire assembly.







6. Disconnect the vapor recirculation tube connector.







7. CAUTION: The dogpoint screw has a blunt end and must be used.

Remove the screw.







8. CAUTION: Do not damage the grommet or the check valve at the end of the filler pipe.

NOTE: If unable to obtain sufficient clearance for removal, the tank strap may have to be loosened.

Remove the fuel tank filler pipe.
1 Slide the fuel tank filler pipe into the tank enough to obtain clearance.
2 Rotate counterclockwise 1/2 turn and remove the fuel tank filler pipe.

INSTALLATION

1. NOTE: Lubricate the fuel tank filler pipe end with petroleum jelly and rotate 1/2 turn clockwise.

Install the fuel tank filler pipe in the fuel tank.







2. NOTE: The blunt end screw must be used.

Install the dogpoint screw.







3. Connect the vapor recirculation hose.
4. Lower the vehicle.







5. Install the screws. Attach the strap for the cap at the 4 o'clock position.
