Power Locks: Description and Operation
HANDLES, LOCKS, LATCHES AND ENTRY SYSTEMSThe hood consists of the following components:
- hood latch
- hood latch striker
- hood latch control handle and cable
The front doors consist of the following components:
- exterior front door handle
- door lock cylinder
- front door latch
- door lock actuator
- door lock control switch
- door ajar switch
- door latch actuating rods
- interior door handle
- interior door handle remote control
The rear doors consist of the following components:
- exterior rear door handle
- rear door latch
- child lock bezel
- door lock actuator
- door latch actuating rods
- interior door handle
- interior door handle remote control
The keyless entry system consists of the following components:
- driver door module (DDM)
- remote transmitter
- keyless entry keypad
The remote transmitter initiates the following electronic system functions:
- releases the luggage compartment lid
- unlocks the driver door
- unlocks all doors
- locks all doors
- activates/deactivates the panic alarm
- commands the interior lamps on (when unlocking) and off (when locking)
- sounds the horn once when LOCK is pressed, and doors are closed
The remote transmitter has a minimum operating range of 10 m (33 ft).
The remote transmitters can be programmed using a diagnostic tool or by using the ignition lock cylinder method.
Lock Cylinders
Individual lock cylinders are repaired by discarding the inoperative lock cylinder and building a new lock cylinder using the appropriate lock repair package. The lock repair package includes a detailed instruction sheet to build the new lock cylinder to the current key code of the vehicle.
Luggage Compartment Lid Latch
The luggage compartment lid latch is equipped with a mechanical interior release handle.
PRINCIPLES OF OPERATION
CAUTION: Do not use a key, pencil or any other hard object to press the keyless entry keypad buttons. These objects may damage the keyless entry keypad buttons.
NOTE:
- The remote transmitter will not operate with the transmission in REVERSE or DRIVE.
- Upon installation of a new driver door module (DDM), the module must be reconfigured. Refer to Module Communications Network (Information Bus).
The DDM receives inputs from the digital transmission range (TR) sensor, ignition switch, brake switch, door lock control switches, lighting control module (LCM), keyless entry keypad and remote transmitter. The DDM outputs consists of keyless entry keypad illumination, door lock actuators, luggage compartment lid release solenoid, and LCM.
For DDM removal and installation information, refer to Body Control Systems (Multifunction Electronic Control Module).
