Removal and Installation
INSTRUMENT PANELREMOVAL
All vehicles
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. Avoid exposing any modules to static electrical charges, as this may cause damage to the modules.
1. Remove the driver air bag module.
2. Remove the passenger air bag module.
Vehicles with Police option
3. Position the glove compartment battery junction box wiring harness aside.
1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Remove the wire tie(s).
All vehicles
4. Close the glove compartment.
5. If equipped, remove the floor console.
6. Position the speed control actuator aside.
1 Remove the nuts.
2 Disconnect the electrical connector.
7. Loosen the bolt and disconnect the LH bulkhead electrical connector.
8. Release the retainers and position the bulkhead electrical connector through the dash panel.
9. Disconnect the A/C temperature sensor electrical connector.
10. Disconnect the RH engine compartment in-line wiring harness connectors.
11. Remove the RH fender splash shield.
12. Remove the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
- Remove the pin-type retainers.
- Disconnect the power point electrical connector.
- Disconnect the courtesy lamp.
13. Remove the LH and RH scuff plates.
14. Remove the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.
15. Disconnect the antenna cable in-line connector.
16. Remove the RH ground bolts.
17. Disconnect the RH bulkhead electrical connectors.
1 Loosen the bolt.
2 Disconnect the RH bulkhead electrical connectors.
18. Disconnect the RH wiring harness electrical connectors.
19. Disconnect the RH wiring harness electrical connector.
20. If equipped, disconnect the electronic automatic temperature control (EATC) hose from the evaporator housing.
21. Position the LH and RH front door weatherstrip seals aside.
22. Feed the RH wiring harness through the dash panel.
23. Disconnect the climate control head vacuum harness connector.
24. If equipped with floor console shift, remove the pin-type retainer and position the carpet aside.
25. If equipped with steering column shift, remove the pin-type retainer and the instrument panel tunnel brace cover.
26. Remove the instrument panel tunnel brace.
1 Remove the nuts.
2 Remove the instrument panel tunnel brace.
27. If equipped, remove the LH instrument panel insulator.
1 Remove the pin-type retainers.
2 Position the LH instrument panel insulator aside.
- Disconnect the courtesy lamp.
28. Remove the instrument panel steering column cover.
1 Remove the screws.
2 Remove the instrument panel steering column cover.
29. Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
30. Position the steering column brace aside.
1 Remove the nut.
2 Position the steering column brace aside.
31. Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column shaft.
1 Remove and discard the pinch bolt.
2 Separate the intermediate shaft from the steering column shaft.
32. If equipped with steering column shift, disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column.
1 Disconnect the cable from the steering column shift tube lever.
2 Disconnect the cable from the steering column bracket.
33. Remove the LH ground bolt.
34. Disconnect the LH wiring harness electrical connectors.
35. Remove the defroster opening grille.
- If equipped, disconnect the electrical connectors.
36. Remove the three instrument panel cowl top screws.
37. Remove the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.
38. Remove the upper LH instrument panel cowl side nut.
39. Remove the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.
40. NOTE: Two technicians are needed to carry out this step.
Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION
All vehicles
CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. Avoid exposing any modules to static electrical charges, as this may cause damage to the modules.
1. NOTE: Two technicians are needed to carry out this step.
Position the instrument panel into the vehicle.
2. Install the lower LH instrument panel cowl side bolt.
3. Install the upper LH instrument panel cowl side nut.
4. Install the RH instrument panel cowl side nut.
5. Install the three instrument panel cowl top screws.
6. Install the defroster opening grille.
- If equipped, connect the electrical connector.
7. Connect the LH wiring harness electrical connectors.
8. Install the LH ground bolt.
9. If equipped with steering column shift, connect the transmission shift cable to the steering column.
1 Connect the cable to the steering column bracket.
2 Connect the cable to the steering column shift tube lever.
10. Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering column shaft.
1 Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering column shaft.
2 Install a new pinch bolt.
11. Install the steering column brace.
1 Position the steering column brace.
2 Install the nut.
12. Install the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
1 Position the instrument panel steering column opening cover reinforcement.
2 Install the bolts.
13. Install the instrument panel steering column cover.
1 Position the instrument panel lower steering column cover.
2 Install the screws.
14. If equipped, install the LH instrument panel insulator.
1 Position the LH instrument panel insulator.
2 Install the pin-type retainers.
- Connect the courtesy lamp.
15. Install the instrument panel tunnel brace.
1 Position the instrument panel tunnel brace.
2 Install the nuts.
16. If equipped with steering column shift, install the instrument panel tunnel brace cover and the pin-type retainer.
17. If equipped with floor console shift, position the carpet and install the pin-type retainer.
18. Connect the climate control head vacuum harness connector.
19. Feed the RH wiring harness through the dash panel and seat the wiring grommet.
20. Install the LH and RH front door weatherstrip seals.
21. If equipped, connect the EATC hose to the evaporator housing.
22. Connect the RH wiring harness electrical connector.
23. Connect the RH electrical connectors.
24. Connect the RH bulkhead electrical connector.
1 Connect the RH bulkhead electrical connector.
2 Tighten the bolt.
25. Install the RH ground bolts.
26. Connect the antenna cable in-line connector.
27. Install the LH and RH A-pillar lower trim panels.
28. Install the LH and RH scuff plates.
29. Install the RH instrument panel lower insulator.
- Install the pin-type retainers.
- Connect the power point electrical connector.
- Connect the courtesy lamp.
30. Install the RH fender splash shield.
31. Connect the RH engine compartment in-line wiring harness connectors.
32. Connect the A/C temperature sensor electrical connector.
33. Install the bulkhead electrical connector into the dash panel.
34. Connect the bulkhead electrical connector.
35. Position the speed control actuator.
1 Install the nuts.
2 Connect the electrical connector.
36. If equipped, install the floor console.
Vehicles with Police option
37. Install the glove compartment battery junction box wiring harness.
1 Connect the electrical connector.
2 Install a new wire tie(s).
All vehicles
38. Install the driver air bag module.
39. Install the passenger air bag module.
