FRONT DOOR CATCHES ON WEATHERSTRIP - ROOF
SIDE RAIL - VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO 5/1/2004

FORD: 2003-2004 Crown Victoria

MERCURY: 2003-2004 Grand Marquis

This article supersedes TSB 03-22-09 to update the vehicle build date information.

ISSUE

On some vehicles built before 5/1/2004, a snapping noise may be heard when opening the front door(s). This noise may be caused by the front door header catching on the roof side rail weatherstrip at the A-pillar.

ACTION

To service, apply adhesive to the weatherstrip at the top of the A-pillar. Perform this repair on both sides of the vehicle to maintain symmetry. Do not replace the weatherstrip or attempt to adjust the fit or form of the door. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Obtain a tube of TA-19, Motorcraft Instant Adhesive or equivalent.

2. Open the front door.

3. Ensure the exposed flat surfaces of the weatherstrip at the top of the A-pillar are clean.

4. Lift the flap of the weatherstrip at the top of the A-pillar.

5. Apply a bead of adhesive about 1/8 to 1/4 inch wide and 2 inches long, along the flat underside surface of the weatherstrip (Figure 1).

NOTE
DO NOT APPLY EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF ADHESIVE, TOO MUCH ADHESIVE WILL NOT CURE PROPERLY.

6. Press the flap flat against the weatherstrip. Apply even pressure for at least thirty (30) seconds to allow adhesive to take hold.

7. Close the door after the thirty (30) seconds. The adhesive should be completely set after five (5) minutes.

8. Repeat this procedure for the opposite front door.

NOTE
DO NOT TRY TO PULL THE WEATHERSTRIP APART ONCE THE ADHESIVE HAS TAKEN HOLD.
