Shock Absorber
Shock Absorber-WagonRemoval and Installation
CAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. A new part with the same part number, or an equivalent part, must be installed if installation is necessary. Do not use a new part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.
CAUTION: The rear suspension arm and bushing must be supported before removing the upper or lower shock absorber mounting fasteners to prevent damage to attached components.
1. Prepare the vehicle for shock absorber removal.
1 Remove the rear compartment access panels.
2 Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
3 Using a suitable jack stand, support the rear suspension arm and bushing.
2. CAUTION: Do not use pliers on the shock absorber rod as the finished rod surface could be damaged.
Using a wrench, hold the shock absorber rod in place while removing the nut. Using a 15 mm crows-foot wrench and ratchet, remove and discard the nut, washer and rubber insulator.
3. NOTE: The shock absorbers are gas filled. It will require an effort to collapse the shock absorber in order to remove or install the shock absorber from or onto the rear wheel spindle.
Remove and discard the bolt. Remove the shock absorber.
4. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
