Removal and Installation
RemovalAll vehicles
1. NOTE: Make sure the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.
2. WARNING: To avoid the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, notes and instructions in the deactivation procedure.
Deactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
3. WARNING: To reduce the risk of serious personal injury, read and follow all warnings, notes and instructions in the clockspring removal and installation procedure.
Remove the clockspring.
4. Remove the reinforcement.
1 Remove the screws and the data link connector.
2 Remove the bolts and the reinforcement.
5. Remove the screws.
6. Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the multi-function switch.
7. Position the wiring aside.
1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Pull the wiring harness routing pin out of the steering column.
8. Pull the wiring harness routing pin out of the steering column.
9. Disconnect the ignition switch electrical connector.
10. Remove the bolt.
11. Remove the four nuts and lower the steering column.
Vehicles with column shift
12. Disconnect the brake shift interlock electrical connector.
13. Disconnect the shift cable and remove the steering column.
Vehicles with console shift
14. Disconnect the shift interlock actuator and remove the steering column.
Installation
Vehicles with console shift
1. Position the steering column and connect the shift lock actuator.
Vehicles with column shift
2. Position the steering column and connect the shift cable.
3. Connect the brake shift interlock electrical connector.
All Vehicles
4. Position the steering column and install the four nuts.
5. Connect the steering column coupling and install the bolt.
6. Connect the ignition switch electrical connector.
7. Attach the wiring routing pin to the steering column.
8. Position the wiring.
1 Connect the electrical connector.
2 Attach the wiring routing pin to the steering column.
9. Connect the electrical connectors.
10. Position the multi-function switch and install the screws.
11. Install the reinforcement.
1 Position the reinforcement and install the bolts.
2 Position the data link connector and install the bolts.
12. Install the clockspring.
13. If equipped with a column shift, reposition the shift indicator tube.
1 Reposition the shift indicator tube and install the screw.
2 Attach the shift indicator cable.
14. Install the key-in-ignition warning indicator switch.
15. Install the passive anti-theft system (PATS) transmitter.
1 Position the PATS transmitter to the steering column.
2 Install the PATS transmitter retaining screw.
16. Install the tilt wheel handle and shank.
17. If using the same clockspring, remove the tape.

Reactivate the supplemental restraint system (SRS).
