ISSUE
Many conditions may result in an illuminated airbag warning lamp. Workshop Manual diagnostic repair procedures should be used first to pinpoint affected subsystem (e.g., driver/passenger front or side airbags driver/passenger pretensioners, passenger seat weight sensor, crash sensors, restraints control module) and retrieve fault codes. For airbag diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) B2290 and B2295, use the following Service Tips when verifying wiring integrity.
ACTION
Follow normal diagnostic procedures in Workshop Manual Section 501-20B. When diagnosing airbag codes B2290 or B2295, the following are possible locations to inspect for possible interruptions in circuit continuity. Refer to the following Service Information for details.

WARNING
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DIAGNOSE OR TROUBLESHOOT AIR BAG CIRCUITRY WITHOUT CONSULTING THE WORKSHOP MANUAL. IMPROPER TROUBLESHOOTING COULD CAUSE THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY INADVERTENTLY, CAUSING INJURY.
Inspect the following locations when diagnosing DTCs B2290 and/or B2295.
^ 14A005 wire harness routing under the seat - Figure 1. Vehicles built before 08/26/2002: The 14A005 wire harness may become trapped under the seat track due to excess wire length. Later vehicles have the wire harness shortened by 4 inches (100 mm) to reduce the possibility of becoming trapped during production.
^ Seat wire routing issues - Figure 2a. The seat wire harness may become trapped between the seat pan and tracks causing a short.
^ Seat wire routing issues - Figure 2b. Vehicles built before 08/12/2002: The seat wire harness may have become trapped between the seat frame and front floor pan causing a short.
^ Side airbag connector bent pins - Figure 3.
Vehicles built between 05/07/2002 and 06/11/2002: Connectors C313 and C314 had the three cavity hardshell replaced with a four cavity hardshell. Vehicles in the date range may have twisted wires at the back of these side airbag connectors which may have caused deflected pins inside the connector. When the connectors were mated, there was a potential for bent pins. Later vehicles had the spot tape removed from the back of the side airbag connector to eliminate the potential for bent pins.
^ Short out condition at OCS (Occupant Classification System) connector - Figure 4.
Vehicles built before 08/19/2002: Wires may slip out of the protective convolute creating a potential for a short out condition against the sharp edge of the front passenger seat frame at the seat pressure sensor. Later vehicles have full tape wrap on the plastic convolute around the wire to the seat pressure sensor connector.
^ Spread terminals in OCS connectors. Vehicles built before 06/21/2002: Connector C3042 and C3043 may have spread female terminals causing an intermittent contact.
^ Short-out condition at pretensioners (left and right) - Figures 5a and 5b. Vehicles built before 08/26/2002: The 14A005 wire harness may become trapped under the pretensioner bolt at the "B" pillar. Later vehicles have a piece of scroll added to the wire to prevent it from becoming trapped under the bolt during assembly.
