Brake Shift Interlock Actuator-Floor Shifter

Removal and Installation

1. WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the backup power supply must be depleted before repairing or replacing any front or side air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) components and before servicing, replacing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side air bag sensors, such as doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches.

Please refer to the appropriate location of the front air bag sensors.

The side air bag sensors are located at or near the base of the B-pillar.

To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped).


Disconnect the battery ground cable. Wait at least one minute before proceeding with the procedure to allow the backup power supply to deplete its energy.





2. Remove the instrument panel finish panel and disconnect the electrical connector.





3. Lift the console finish panel up and remove the finish panel.





4. Push the shift handle bezel down and disconnect the TCS harness.





5. Remove the two shift handle retaining screws and remove the shift handle.





6. Lift the shift indicator bezel and remove the bulb.





7. Release the shift interlock cable housing clip and disconnect the interlock cable.





8. Remove the lower steering column opening finish panel.
1 Remove the screw and position the parking brake release handle out of the way.
2 Remove the screw from the lower steering column opening finish panel.
3 Pull outward to release the retaining clips and remove the lower steering column opening finish panel.





9. Remove the five screws and the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement.





10. Remove the four screws and the instrument panel reinforcement brace.





11. Remove the four nuts and lower the steering column.





12. Disconnect the electrical connector from the shift lock actuator solenoid.





13. Remove the two screw from the actuator mounting cover.





14. Lift the actuator solenoid from the mounting bracket and remove the interlock actuator and cable.
15. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
