This article supersedes TSB 02-15-4 to update the parts and build date range.

ISSUE
Some 2003 Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis vehicles built before 6/10/2003 may exhibit poor adhesion and peeling of the door trim panel decorative carpet inserts. This may be aggravated by hot or humid conditions.

ACTION
Remove the door trim panel carpet inserts. Spray the door trim panel plastic surface with Ford Plastic Primer (or Dupli-Color Adhesion Promoter Clear Primer), allow to dry and re-affix the carpet in place with Motorcraft Trim and Weatherstrip Adhesive. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the carpet from BOTH front doors.

2. Mask the door trim panels around the carpet attachment surface.

3. Spray the surface with Ford Plastic Primer (or Dupli Color Adhesion Promoter Clear Primer) and allow to flash dry. Follow the instructions provided on the product's label.

4. Repeat Step 3.

5. Using the applicator brush, apply Motorcraft Trim and Weatherstrip Adhesive to the carpet inserts and to the corresponding door trim panel surface. This is a black adhesive supplied in a metal can.

NOTE
DO NOT APPLY ADHESIVE WITHIN 1/4 INCH OF ANY EDGE AS IT MAY SQUEEZE OUT AND BECOME VISIBLE.

6. Allow adhesive to cure for five minutes.

7. Carefully position carpet to door panels and press in place.

NOTE
RE-POSITIONING OF THE CARPET INSERT IS DIFFICULT ONCE CONTACT IS MADE.

8. Inspect rear door carpet/repair if necessary.
