Main Control-Pump











Special Tool(s)

Removal





1. Place the transaxle range selector lever in the PARK position.
2. Remove the battery.





3. Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and the breather tubes.





4. Remove the engine air cleaner.





5. Remove the air filter assembly.





6. Remove the battery tray.





7. Disconnect the connectors.





8. Disconnect the connector.





9. Remove the power steering line bracket.





10. Remove the electrical connector bracket.





11. Disconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor connector.





12. Install the 3 Bar Engine Support.





13. Install the engine lifting bracket on the right (back) hand side of the engine.





14. Install the engine lifting bracket on the left (front) hand side of the engine.





15. Remove the bolts.
16. Raise the vehicle.
17. Remove the LH wheel and tire.





18. Remove the LH front fender splash shield upper screws.





19. Remove the LH front fender splash shield.
^ Remove one screw, one pushpin and the shield.
20. Remove the LH transaxle support bracket and insulator.
21. Position a drain pan under the transaxle side pan.





22. Remove the bolts and remove the transaxle side pan.





23. CAUTION: Do not pull on the wires or the electrical connectors. Damage to the connectors will result.

Lift the locking tab and disconnect the electrical connectors.
24. Position the transaxle wiring harness out of the way.





25. CAUTION: Do not remove the two bolts that hold the pump assembly and main control valve body together as the pump assembly may fall from the main control valve body and become damaged.

CAUTION: Only 4 of the 6 bolts need to be removed.

Remove the bolts. Note the size and location of the bolts.
26. Disconnect the manual linkage.





27. Remove the main pump assembly and the main control valve body by carefully sliding it off the pump shaft.

Installation





1. Install the pump assembly and main control valve body onto the pump shaft.
2. Rotate the pump assembly and main control valve body to connect the manual valve link with the manual valve.





3. CAUTION: Do not use the bolts to draw pump assembly and main control valve body onto the chain cover case. Component damage fly occur.

Using the special tool, install the pump assembly and main control valve body. Loosely install the bolts.





4. CAUTION: Do not use the bolts to draw pump assembly and main control valve body onto the chain cover case. Component damage may occur.

Remove the special tool, install two bolts, and tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.
5. Install the transaxle wire harness the retaining clip into the separator plate.





6. Connect the electrical connectors.





7. NOTE: The transaxle side cover gasket is reusable if not torn or ripped.

Install the side cover, gasket and bolts.
8. Install the LH transaxle support and insulator.





9. Install the LH front fender splash shield, screw, and pushpin.





10. Install the LH front fender splash shield screws.
11. Install the LH wheel and tire.
12. Lower the vehicle.





13. Install the bolts retaining the upper transaxle side pan.





14. Remove the 3 Bar Engine Support.





15. Remove the LH engine lifting bracket.





16. Remove the RH engine lifting bracket.





17. Reconnect the turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor connector.





18. Install the electrical connector bracket.





19. Install the power steering line bracket.





20. Reconnect the connector.





21. Reconnect the connector.





22. Install the battery tray.





23. Install the air filter assembly.





24. Install the engine air cleaner.





25. Reconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor and the breather tubes.
26. Reinstall the battery.
27. Fill the transaxle assembly with one quart of clean automatic transmission fluid.
28. Start the engine. Move the transaxle range selector lever through all positions. Check the fluid level.
