Reactivation
Reactivation
All vehicles
1. Remove the RCM Fuse F2.23 (10A).
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute.
Vehicles with side air bags
3. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the driver side air bag module.
4. Connect the driver side air bag module electrical connector.
5. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the driver side air bag module electrical connector.
6. From under the driver seat, connect the side air bag module electrical connector.
All vehicles
7. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool from the vehicle harness side of the passenger air bag control module electrical connector.
8. Make sure there are no foreign objects in the passenger air bag module alignment channels.
9. Remove or position anything out of the way that may be blocking the accessibility to the I/P alignment rails or holes.
10. Connect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.
1 Position the passenger air bag module.
2 Install the wire harness pin-type retainer to the passenger air bag module.
3 Connect the passenger air bag module electrical connector.
11. Position the passenger air bag module alignment channels to the alignment rails of the I/P.
All vehicles
12. Install the passenger air bag module and trim cover into the I/P.
NOTE: Left hand upper alignment pin shown, left hand lower alignment pin is similar.
Starting at the left hand side of the trim cover, install the upper and lower alignment pins into the I/P.
13. Working from left to right, install all the trim cover retaining tabs and alignment pins into the I/P.
- When all channels and tabs are aligned correctly, there will be an even gap around the perimeter of the passenger air bag trim cover.
14. Through the glove box opening, install the passenger air bag module retaining bolts.
15. Close the glove box.
16. Remove the restraint system diagnostic tool and connect the clockspring electrical connector.
17. Close the access door.
18. Warning: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
Make sure all restraint system diagnostic tool(s) that may have been installed during the repair have been removed from the vehicle and all SRS components are connected.
19. Turn the ignition switch from OFF to ON.
20. Install the RCM fuse F2.23 (10A) to the CJB and install the cover.
21. Warning: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected.
Connect the battery ground cable.
22. Prove out the supplemental restraint system (SRS) as follows:
Turn the ignition key from ON to OFF. Wait 10 seconds, then turn the key back to ON and visually monitor the air bag indicator with the air bag modules installed. The air bag indicator will light continously for approximatly six seconds and then turn off. If an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault is present, the air bag indicator will either:
- Fail to light.
- remain lit continously
- flash
The flashing might might not occur until approximately 30 seconds after the ignition switch has been turned fromthe OFF to the ON position. This is the time required for the restraints control module (RCM) to complete thr testing of the SRS. If the air bag indicator is innoperative and the SRS fault exists, a chime will sound in a pattern of five sets of five beeps. If this occurs, the air bag indicator and any SRS fault discovered must be diagnosed and repaired. Clear all continous DTCs from the restraints control module using a scan tool.
22. Connect the four-pin clockspring electrical connector at the base of the steering column.
23. Install the lower steering column opening cover with reinforcement.
1 Position the lower steering column opening cover with reinforcement to the instrument panel and push in at the top seating the retaining clips.
2 Install the bolts.
24. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
25. WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from the vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
With all the restraint system diagnostic tools removed, prove out the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).
