Vacuum Brake Booster: Service and Repair
Brake BoosterRemoval and Installation
1. Disconnect the battery.
2. Disconnect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and the breather tubes.
3. Disconnect the outlet tube from the throttle body.
4. Remove the engine air cleaner housing cover and position it aside.
5. Remove the wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft.
6. Remove the brake master cylinder.
7. Position the speed control module out of the way.
1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Remove the nuts. Position the module and bracket out of the way.
8. Disconnect the manual control lever cable from the Transmission Range Sensor (TRS) and remove the manual cable bracket nut.
9. Remove the manual cable bracket bolts and position the bracket out of the way.
10. Remove the vacuum outlet manifold assembly.
11. Detach the check valve.
12. Remove and discard the nut, and detach the heater hose retainer. Position the hose out of the way.
13. NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the electrical connector.
Detach the wiring harness and the electrical connector retainers. Position the wiring harness out of the way.
14. Remove two bolts and the steering column opening cover.
15. Disconnect the push rod.
1 Disconnect the electrical connector.
2 Remove the push rod retainer.
3 Slide the push rod off the pin and remove the stoplight switch, the washer, and the bushing.
16. Remove and discard the nuts.
17. Remove the brake booster.
18. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
^ Carry out the Brake Booster Flush Rod Adjustment.
^ Use new nuts.
