Vacuum Brake Booster: Adjustments
Brake Booster Push Rod Adjustment1. Fabricate a push rod adjustment gauge as shown.
2. NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the brake master cylinder brake tubes. Support the brake master cylinder to prevent damage to the tubes.
If necessary, remove the brake master cylinder.
3. CAUTION: When adjusting, do not make the push rod length too long. Brake drug can result.
With the engine running, check and adjust the push rod length to between 5.84 mm (0.23 inch) and 6.22 mm (0.245 inch) as checked by the gauge.
^ A force of approximately 22 N (5 lbs.) applied to the push rod gauge will make sure the push rod is seated in the booster.
^ If adjustment is necessary, grip the push rod only by the knurled area.
4. Install the brake master cylinder.
