Rear Door Latch: Service and Repair
Heavy Duty Riveter:
SPECIAL TOOL(S)
REMOVAL
All Vehicles
1. Remove the rear door trim panel.
2. Position the interior door handle aside.
1 Remove the rivet.
2 Position the interior door handle forward and position it aside.
3. Position the watershield aside.
4. Disconnect the door handle cable guide.
5. Remove the lock rod bell crank rivet, and discard the bushing.
^ Disconnect the push button lock rod from the bellcrank.
CAUTION: When removing the rivet's center pin, use care not to damage the door panel sheet metal.
Early Build Vehicles
6. Unclip and disconnect the exterior door handle actuating rod.
CAUTION: When connecting the exterior door handle actuating rod, allow it to hang free before clipping it into place.
Late Build Vehicles
7. Disconnect the exterior rear door handle release cable.
1 Release the cable conduit.
2 Release the cable.
All Vehicles
8. Remove the rear door latch bolts.
9. Remove the rear door latch, cable and interior handle as an assembly.
^ Disconnect the electrical connector(s).
10. Transfer all the necessary components.
INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
NOTE: The special tool must be used to install the new rivet.
