Extension Housing Seal and Gasket





Special Tool(s)

Removal
1. Drain the transmission fluid.

2. NOTE: The output shaft and drive shaft are a balanced assembly.





Mark the driveshaft flange and the rear companion flange for correct alignment during assembly.





3. Remove the four driveshaft bolts.





4. Separate the driveshaft from the transmission.
5. Use a high-lift transmission jack to support the transmission.





6. Remove the two transmission mount nuts.





7. Remove the transmission crossmember.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the transmission crossmember.
8. Lower the transmission to access the extension housing bolts.





9. Using the special tools, remove the extension housing seal.





10. Remove the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
1 Disconnect the connector.
2 Remove the bolt.
3 Remove the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).





11. Remove the extension housing and gasket.
1 Remove the bolts and the nuts.
2 Remove the extension housing and gasket.

Installation





1. Install the extension housing and gasket.
1 Position the extension housing gasket and the extension housing.
2 Install the bolts and the nuts.





2. Install the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
1 Install the vehicle speed sensor (VSS).
2 Install the bolt.
3 Connect the connector.





3. Using the special tool, install a new extension housing seal.
4. Raise and position the transmission.





5. Install the transmission crossmember.
1 Position the transmission crossmember.
2 Install the bolts.
6. Remove the high-lift transmission jack.





7. Install the two transmission mount nuts.

8. NOTE: The output shaft and the driveshaft are a balanced assembly.





Install the driveshaft.
- Align the index marks and position the driveshaft on the transmission.
- Install the driveshaft.

9. NOTE: To maintain driveshaft balance, install the driveshaft yoke and flange in its original position that was marked during removal.





Install the four retaining bolts.
10. Install the filter and transmission fluid pan.
